HOW CONTENT ADDRESSING WORKS
SHA-256 maps any input — a 10MB evidence archive or a single byte — to a fixed 64-character hex string.
Same input always = same output. Change one character in the evidence and you get a
completely different hash. The hash is the evidence's permanent identity.
STEP 2 — YOUR WITNESS PAYLOAD
Your witness is a unique hash combining: the evidence fingerprint +
your random seed + the timestamp.
This proves you specifically witnessed this evidence at this moment.
Nobody else has the same seed.

What's happening: Every ~10 minutes, a Bitcoin miner creates a new block.
The OpenTimestamps service batches thousands of witness hashes into a single Merkle tree
and buries the root in one transaction. Your hash is now part of that tree.
Once mined, no one — not governments, not corporations — can alter when you witnessed this.
Your .ots file is proof. Keep it. Even if this site disappears,
you can verify with: ots verify witness.ots
